{"id":41,"date":"2017-09-04T10:06:51","date_gmt":"2017-09-04T08:06:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tomvst.be\/blog\/?p=41"},"modified":"2017-09-04T10:06:51","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T08:06:51","slug":"install-belgian-eid-software-in-ubuntu-16-04","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tomvst.net\/blog\/2017\/09\/install-belgian-eid-software-in-ubuntu-16-04\/","title":{"rendered":"Install Belgian eID software in Ubuntu 16.04"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Partially as a reminder to myself, here the steps how to get your eID working in Ubuntu (tested on 16.04, but should be working for other versions, Debian and Linux Mint as well)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the .deb package from the <a href=\"https:\/\/eid.belgium.be\/en\/linux-eid-software-installation\">official site<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Install the package:\u00a0<strong>sudo dpkg -i eid-archive_*_all.deb<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Open a terminal and update your indexes: <strong>sudo apt-get update<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Install your eID cardreader: <strong>sudo apt-get install -y libacr38u<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Install the middleware and the eID viewer:\u00a0<strong>sudo apt-get install -y eid-mw eid-viewer<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Reboot your PC (don&#8217;t miss this step!)<\/li>\n<li>Connect your cardreader and insert an eID card. You can make sure you can read it out using the eID viewer application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to use Firefox (!) to get it to work in websites. Quite sure it&#8217;s a certificate issue in Chrome\/Chromium, but for the times I use it, I didn&#8217;t bother finding it out.
